Completion of Remedial Action

On behalf of the Responsible Parties for two co-mingled underground storage tank releases in Powell County, Kentucky, IWM recently completed two phases of remedial work at the sites.  Remediation consisted of an excavation and in-situ injections.  Both vertical and angled injections were conducted to better remediate otherwise inaccessible contaminated areas.  The costs were entirely covered by Kentucky’s Petroleum Storage Tank Environmental Assurance Fund.  As IWM accepts direct pay agreements with the Fund, there was no financial burden to the Responsible Parties – even though the remedial costs were almost a half million dollars!

Congratulations New No Further Action Site!

The Kentucky Underground Storage Tank Branch recently granted No Further Action to an IWM project site in Powell County.  Total project costs exceeded $500,000, but the costs were entirely covered by Kentucky’s Petroleum Storage Tank Environmental Assurance Fund.  IWM would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the property owner for reaching the end of the process.  Also, thank you very much for your cooperation along the way!

Small Owner Tank Removal Account (SOTRA)

IWM is pleased to announce a new SOTRA site in Pendleton County, Kentucky.  Tank removal costs are typically considered a business expense, and are therefore not reimbursable by Kentucky’s Petroleum Storage Tank Environmental Assurance Fund.  However, SOTRA will pay a set fee for tank closure activities for qualifying small owners.  In this case, SOTRA eligibility will save the Responsible Party approximately $40,000 in tank closure and surface restoration costs!

Completion of Remedial Action

On behalf of the Responsible Party for an underground storage tank release in Nicholas County, Kentucky, IWM recently completed a $325,000 asbestos inspection, demolition and excavation scope of work.  The costs were entirely covered by Kentucky’s Petroleum Storage Tank Environmental Assurance Fund.  As IWM accepts direct pay agreements with the Fund, there was no financial burden to the Responsible Party.
